Postfix and Google Apps on Slicehost

Spent ages last night trying to get the Exception Notifier plugin and had all sorts of problems as I used Gmail from Google Apps to handle email. In the end I installed sendmail instead and everything worked fine straight off. Any reasons why this isn't recommended as standard practice? Let me know if you have any thoughts.
